DIGITAL GAME FOR WORKPLACE LEARNING
Accessibility tools
The main objective of this outcome is to develop educational material in game format, which is much more accessible, playful and intuitive for young people with intellectual disabilities. Through the game, users will be able to acquire knowledge about the various platforms and resources they can use to find a job. In addition, they will be provided with practical skills and specific recommendations adapted to the particularities of the different professional areas. In addition to the creation of the digital game, the objectives of this work package include a series of key activities to ensure its success and sustainability:
Definition of the characteristics of the game
A study of the needs and preferences of people with intellectual disabilities will be carried out to ensure that the game is attractive, motivating and effective in its educational purpose.
Technical development of the game
This phase includes the programming and graphic design of the game. Work will focus on creating user-friendly interfaces, interactive scenarios and missions that simulate real-life situations related to job search. Technical development will also include the implementation of accessibility options to ensure that the game is inclusive.
Evaluation and implementation of improvements
LTTA for evaluation and improvement proposals. The opinions of users and special educators who will participate in the evaluation will be taken into account in order to prepare an improvement document. Problems encountered, limitations, usability, etc. will be taken into account. It is expected that this will improve the tool, changing what is necessary and adding those aspects that the users have detected as possible improvements.
This outcome not only seeks to create a digital game, but also to establish a support and training network that will enable people with intellectual disabilities to acquire and disseminate fundamental skills for their insertion into the labor market.
The end result will be an innovative digital game for smartphones specifically designed to help young people with intellectual disabilities on their path to employability. This game, carefully developed with an inclusive and pedagogical approach, will provide users with an interactive experience in which they will be able to explore and learn about the various tasks and responsibilities involved in each job position in different professional sectors.
Through a playful and immersive environment, players will be able to simulate real work situations, perform activities specific to each profession and face challenges that will allow them to evaluate their skills and work preferences. This will not only help them identify which tasks they can perform competently and which they cannot, but will also provide them with a valuable opportunity to understand which types of jobs and work environments are most appealing and satisfying to them. By fostering a deeper understanding of the demands and characteristics of each job, the digital game will not only serve as a learning medium, but also as a self-awareness tool that will enable people with intellectual disabilities to make more informed and realistic decisions about their future career.
In addition, an international training activity will be conducted when the first version of the game is released. A two-day training session will be organized in Spain specifically for young people with intellectual disabilities. It is designed to teach users how to play the game and get feedback for improvement, thus maximizing the educational benefits of the tool. To ensure that the impact of the game is long-lasting, a group of leaders or “mentors” will be trained at each participating center. These mentors will be responsible for guiding other users in the use of the game and promoting its dissemination as a valuable educational tool. The mentors will also play an active role in the feedback and continuous improvement of the game.
